June 2025 Dev Log: Strengthening Our Foundations and Laying the Groundwork

2025 00 DevLog intro 05This month has been about tightening up the core—both on the web side and within Apex Engine. While we hit a few delays with the Apex Community Hub rollout, the extra time has gone into meaningful improvements based on user feedback and internal testing. Stability, security, and workflow enhancements took center stage, helping us stay ahead of what's coming next.

WebOps & Community Infrastructure

To keep things stable and scalable, we performed a round of foundational updates across the community and portal systems. These updates are part of our continued effort to ensure that our users and clients have a secure, seamless experience across all TGS Tech platforms.

  • Security Updates: Rolled out patches and hardened systems against potential threats.
  • Server & Apache Updates: Improved backend performance and future-proofed key systems.
  • Core System Upgrades: Addressed updates to the stack powering our portals and internal tools.
  • GDPR & CCPA Account Security Enhancements: Added new layers of compliance to ensure user data privacy is fully protected.

Changes: As part of our recent upgrade cycle, updates to package dependencies led us to make some necessary adjustments before the public launch of the Apex Community Hub. This included backend refactoring and a few last-minute UI/UX improvements inspired by early access feedback. While the timeline shifted slightly, these enhancements are setting us up for a more stable, secure, and refined experience—one that better reflects the quality we aim to deliver from day one.

Apex Engine: First Pre-Alpha Workflows in Action

On the engine side, we’ve made real progress in bringing together the initial tools that will define our development workflows. The early pre-alpha suite is helping us validate key functionality and speed up internal testing.

Early Pre-Alpha Tools Assembled:

  • Apex3D Viewer: A tool to quickly view .a3d assets and models.
  • Apex3D FileSync: A lightweight sync utility for internal file and asset management.
  • Apex3D Animation Editor: The early version of our animation system editor, being used for pipeline tests.
  • Apex Engine Client: The basic UI shell is now capable of launching areas, tools, and workspaces.

User Interface: UI/UX In preparation for the inclusion of Qt, we have begun to extend our UI/UX preview work in C++ and XML/QML, laying out the first structural components for the Apex Client’s interface. This includes layout logic, early tool panels, and interaction behaviors.

R&D - First Area Management Tests: We ran a basic internal test of our area management system, successfully loading and navigating an early structure. It's a small step, but it marks the start of how users will define and interact with areas and environments inside Apex Engine.

Looking Ahead

June was a critical month for pushing forward core infrastructure—on both the backend and engine sides. As we head into Q3, we’ll continue building out workflows, refining tools, and preparing for the next wave of public testing and community engagement.

Stay tuned for more hands-on previews, and thank you to everyone who’s been following along and giving feedback. It’s making a difference.
